If you had an Illinois driver’s license and had it revoked and now what a driver’s license in your new state, you are going to have clear your license in Illinois first.
Your new state will not issue you a license because Illinois has a hold on your right to drive. There are three ways to release the hold.
- Go back to court to try to undo what was done that took away your license. It is possible to go back many years and fix something. Once I went back to court on a charge that happened over 42 years ago and I had it removed. With the ticket removed, my client was able to get his driver’s license back.
- Have a hearing before the Illinois Secretary of State. There are two types of hearings: formal and informal. This requires you to come back to Illinoi.
- Submit an out of state packet to the Illinois Secretary of State.
All of the above options require an experienced attorney in driver reinstatement. Although all of them can be attempted without an attorney, an attorney (with experience in these matters) can make all of the difference.
