Coronavirus and the number of DUI (Driving Under the Influence ) initially dropped in March, April and May of 2020, when coronavirus was shutting everything down and locking peopler in their homes. However, the number of DUI cases have increased since June of 2020 to present.
As business close their doors, and people lost their jobs, people turned to alcohol and drugs to cope. This fueled the increase number of DUI cases.
Most courts are not conducting in-person court but rather court by video conference, (i.e., Zoom) and as an attorney we are expected to conduct hearings and trials via Zoom. A video hearing or trial is simply not the same as an in-person hearing. This is why all of my DUI and criminal cases are being continued until the courts reopen. Only is situations where my client’s license is being suspended will I agree to a video hearing.
