An alcohol breathalyzer has been around for many years, and the result are generally considered accurate. But there has been no breathalyzer for marijuana. However, a marijuana breathalyzer has recently been developed. California drivers will be the first to be tested with marijuana breathalyzers.
Drivers who took part in the field test and blew a positive reading admitted to smoking anywhere from thirty minutes to three hours before blowing into the device.
The creators hope that the device, which is handheld and can test for THC (the main component in marijuana) as well as alcohol. This will be rolled out nationwide next year. More tests are needed to validate the results.
